Routine Physicals & Immunizations
Routine Physicals (Well-Child Checkups)
Preventive care is an important part of your child’s total health care regimen. Children go through a lot of changes very rapidly during their first few years and taking your child to the doctor when he or she is unwell is simply not enough. It is just as crucial to schedule regular well-child checkups.
Well-child visits allow our pediatricians to monitor and assess your child’s regular development. They also give you the opportunity to voice your concerns about your child’s development and general well-being, and raise questions that are otherwise difficult to address during sick visits.
Suggested Schedule for Routine Physicals
- 3-5 days
- 2 weeks
- 1 month
- 2, 4, 6 and 9 months
- 1 year, 1 year 3 months and 1 year 6 months
- 2 years, 2 years 6 months
- 3 years
An annual health checkup is recommended after your child turns three years old. This will typically include a physical examination in addition to a developmental, behavioral and learning evaluation. Making a list of your questions and concerns before you bring your child in for a doctor checkup will help you focus on your immediate issues and ensure that you get all the information you need.
Immunizations are the most effective means of making a body resistant or immune to an infectious disease. There are several immunizations that are required for your child to maintain optimal health. Following an immunization schedule that is specified by your doctor is key to making sure your child is fully protected from certain diseases. In addition, many schools have immunization requirements to protect children from diseases that are easily spread.
In most cases, infant immunization begins at three months. Childhood immunizations are also done for polio, hepatitis, measles, mumps, rubella and in some cases, chicken pox.
Pediatric Partners suggest that you follow the Immunization Schedule below.
